Sunday Riley - Power Couple Duo: Total Transformation Kit

If you're following any beauty or skin care enthusiasts online, then I'm sure you've heard of the brand Sunday Riley. I've heard some great things about their products, and I really wanted to give some of them a try. Sephora sells this Sunday Riley - Power Couple Duo kit with the best selling items such as Luna and Good Genes.

I almost hate to admit this, but I purchased this duo back during the Spring VIB Sale. However, I've been putting both of these products to the test for over 3 months now, so I really wanted to give them a good try before I went into a review. Skincare is always something that I like to test for a minimum of 2 weeks before I post my thoughts. Since Sunday Riley is on the pricey side, I really wanted to give it a go.

In use together, this power product duo uncovers more radiant, moisturized skin while promoting evenness of skin tone. Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment exfoliates and moisturizes the skin while smoothing the appearance of fine lines. Luna Sleeping Night Oil contains a powerful, yet gentle trans-retinol ester and moisturizing botanical oils to reduce the appearance of pores, fine lines, and sun damage while preventing flakiness and irritation.

Sunday Riley - Luna Sleeping Night Oil
Luna works throughout the night to deliver more visibly youthful, luminous, even-toned skin in the morning. Trans-retinoic acid ester (retinol) complex reduces the appearance of pores and wrinkles, while visibly improving the signs of premature aging, including fine lines, uneven texture, age spots, dryness, and dullness. Balanced with blue tansy and German chamomile essential oils—both rich in soothing, blue azulene—the look of redness and sensitivity are visibly balanced for a calm, even-toned complexion. Luna is clinically proven to improve the appearance of fine lines, radiance, and skin smoothness in as little as four weeks, while advanced retinol ester mixed with potent botanicals makes this product the ultimate transformational, soothing, sleeping night oil.

Sunday Riley recommends to use the Luna oil first, after cleansing and toning your skin. It is a retinol which is supposed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles/lines, uneven texture, pores, and balance dry skin. This does have a slight scent, however it does disappear. It also is a blue oil, so it will leave a slight blue cast on your face until it is absorbed. I enjoyed this oil because it really felt like it hydrated my skin after cleansing. I would apply this only at night, and would give it at least half an hour to absorb into my skin before going in with Good Genes.

Sunday Riley - Good Genes (All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment)
Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment is formulated with high potency, purified grade lactic acid that immediately exfoliates dull, pore-clogging dead skin cells, revealing smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin. Fine lines appear visually plumped while the skin looks more radiant. With continued use, the appearance of stubborn hyperpigmentation and the visible signs of aging are reduced for a healthier-looking complexion. Perfect for all skin types and all ages, this treatment is enhanced with licorice for brightening, Good Genes clarifies, smooths, and retexturizes for instant radiance.

Before using this lactic acid, I was using the Drunk Elephant AHA, so I thought my skin would be able to handle the acid. And at first, it did. However, as time went on, I found my skin would get really dried out. I began to stop using Good Genes every night, and use it only every other night, and that did help a little. Eventually I began to use it every second night and it has worked a little better on my skin. Even with Luna under it, I found that it was a little too strong and was beginning to leave me with dry patches, especially on my cheeks near my nose. It also has a very strong scent, that kind of reminds me of vinegar, which is strange, and takes quite awhile for it to disappear.

Based on the cost, I will not be repurchasing this duo again. Between the two products, I preferred the Luna sleeping oil. But overall, I don't believe I have seen a big enough improvement in my skin to justify purchasing these again in the future. For an acid, I would repurchase the Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Acid Serum because it is more gentle on the skin, and didn't cause my skin to dry out even more. I also noticed my fine lines began to disappear while using the Drunk Elephant serum, but the Sunday Riley duo didn't do much for those. The Sunday Riley also claims to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmenation and signs of aging, and I didn't find that to be true for me. Of course everybody has different reactions to skincare products. What works for me, might not work for you, and vise versa.
