Birchbox Ending Canadian Operations

I heard through the rumour mill on Saturday evening that Birchbox was ending operations in Canada. I was shocked, and after some searching, I found a few "news" articles online, confirming what people were saying on social media.

A few people made some posts asking about it on the Birchbox Facebook page, and all they said was that they would be making an announcement soon regarding the situation, but apologized for people finding out through social media.

Well, today is now Tuesday and they finally made their announcement. This is what they had to say...

We are so sad to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to put our Canada operations on hold. We love our Canadian customers, but with the current exchange rate and high shipping costs, we can't create the Birchbox experience at a price that is fair to you. We will do what we can to make that a possibility; until then, please know that we sincerely appreciate your support and enthusiasm for Birchbox, and we plan to take good care of our Canadian subscribers as we wind down in this market.
For all Birchbox subscribers, March 2016 will be your last shipment.
If you have a monthly subscription, you will no longer be billed after March. If you have an annual subscription, you will be credited the remaining value of your subscription in Birchbox Points.
You have until April 30, 2016 to spend all your Birchbox Points (including your current points and those credited from your subscription).

This makes me sad. I really enjoy the boxes from Birchbox. No, they aren't super customizeable like other subscriptions, but you know that going into it. They were affordable considering they didn't charge in US dollars. And their points shop was awesome, you didn't have to wait for them to upload more products, there was always something available! 

I can understand the issue with the Canadian dollar, and shipping because it is expensive, but other companies seem to be working fine. I'm happy I will still be getting February and possibly March. I'm mad for those who signed up for a yearly subscription because Birchbox doesn't want to refund their credit cards, they want to credit their account with points to shop. I saw a LOT of unhappiness about that on Facebook, and I'd definitely be mad about it too. I personally don't think they will ever come back into Canada again, and if they do, they have lost some customers because of the way this was handled.
