February Empties!

Look at this! An empties post for ONE month only! Usually I wait and do two months together, but I had a little pile growing, and I felt like I needed to get rid of it and not have it sit around for another month. I think I made a decent dent for a month. Hopefully March is just as successful!

Tarte - Tartelette Tease

You know when you keep seeing a palette EVERYWHERE and you think to yourself, hmm... I need that! (When you really don't?!) I'm sure we've all been there. Well, Tartelette - In Bloom is the one doing that to me. The colours look so pretty, and everyone keeps raving about it. I decided to make a Sephora purchase, and I noticed that they were offering a smaller version called Tartelette Tease, and it was a little more affordable than the bigger palette. I decided to splurge and ordered one for myself.

Sephora Favorites - Quench Your Skin [Value Gift Set]

Dry skin + winter + furnace heat = even more dry skin! Lately when I've been applying foundation, I just look so dry! I'm not sure what it is because I use pretty moisturizing products, and when I'm not wearing makeup, my skin doesn't feel dry and looks moisturized. The primers I use don't really help, exfoliating before doesn't help, if I use a dewy foundation, I still look dry, but greasy.. how does that even make sense!?

I decided I needed to try a face oil. An extra layer of moisture may do the trick. Even adding a few drops to my moisturizer or foundation when I apply it would help! So I went on a quest to find an oil that I could use. Now on that quest, I looked on Sephora's website, and I found this "Quench Your Skin" value gift set. I decided instead of investing in a larger bottle of facial oil, I would purchase this value set and maybe find something great I would have never tried before.

My First Topbox! - February 2016

As all Birchbox Canadians know, they ended their subscription service in Canada. The last box was February, and we are able to use our points in the shop until April 2016. Being sad that my favourite subscription box was ending, I seeked out another sub box I could purchase. I have heard many good things about many services, but I decided I wanted to stick with something Canadian. I like that they offer free shipping, and are pretty much in the same price range as other boxes. My searching led me to Topbox, which is in Canada and very affordable. It is only $12 a month, plus tax.. which works out to be $13.56 in Ontario. See! Affordable! AND FREE SHIPPING! Awesome.

I signed up just before Birchbox announced they were ending operations here, so I didn't have to wait. I know a week or two later there was a wait list... which there still might be now. The box ships on the 15th of the month, and mine arrived pretty quickly! I got a notification saying it was shipped on Friday the 12th. We don't get mail service on the weekends, so that eliminates Saturday and Sunday, and Monday was a holiday here. It arrived on Tuesday the 16th! So let's take a look at my FIRST Topbox!

February 2016 - Ipsy Glambag [Review]

This is it. This is my final Ipsy bag. I cancelled my account again at the beginning of February. I think it's time to let it go for good as well. When I originally signed up, it was great. But over the past year or so, I feel the bags have gone down hill and they really don't even try to personalize them anymore. Which shouldn't be a big deal, but don't advertise that you will match people, if you really won't. Also, the Canadian dollar is not so good, and paying $21 a month for this, just isn't worth it in my opinion. That $21 can go to a full size, or high-end product instead! Here's a look at my final glam bag.

Birchbox Points Redemption

With the news of Birchbox closing up Canadian operations, I redeemed the points I had on my account in fear that they wouldn't let us redeem them, or that they would close up immediately and there goes the points. I didn't really need anything so I was just trying to let them accumulate from the last time I did a points redemption. I had enough for $30, so I did end up having to pay a little more out of my pocket than I wanted to. They later announced that we would have until April to redeem our points. I kind of wish I waited cause it would have pushed me to $40 in points. Ah well!

L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Ultra-Even Ritual [Influenster]

As always, I must disclose that I received this package for free, in exchange for my honest review!

I was accepted into the Influenster L'Oreal Hydra-Total 5 VoxBox! It felt like it took forever to get to me, but I was pleasantly surprised to see what was all included when I did receive my box.

January 2016 Favourites!

This is the first time I've done this type of post, I saw it in the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network linkup and decided this would be a good way to get another type of post up every month, and I can share what my favourite products have been for the month!

I tried to pick a few items that I've been continuously using in January!

B-Liv by Cellnique Skincare [Review]

I was contacted days before Christmas by Pui at Cellnique, who was reaching out to give me an opportunity of trying their skincare line called B-Liv. They asked me to join their beauty community, to which I agreed, and they asked for me to send my skincare type and concerns, along with my mailing address. I told them that I have dry skin, with some redness (uneven skin) dullness and I do get acne from time to time. With that, they told me which products I should expect, and that they were sending out the parcel as soon as possible. Well, they have insanely fast shipping from Malaysia, because 6 days later I received notice from DHL that I had a package arriving, and they wanted duties for it. I sent a quick email to Pui asking if I was required to pay this, and they advised me that they would cover the cost. So I paid for it with my credit card, and they issued me a credit on the same day. Super quick, great customer service!

Here is what I was sent...

Too Faced - Better Than Sex Mascara [Review]

I have seen this mascara raved about again and again online, and I decided to give it a shot. I actually purchased this mascara a few months ago, but I don't find myself reaching for it very often. I wanted to give it a fair review, and over time, because I know sometimes when mascara is "fresh" as in just opened, it's very watery. But over time it "thickens up" a bit, making it easier to work with, and giving your lashes a better look!

Birchbox Ending Canadian Operations

I heard through the rumour mill on Saturday evening that Birchbox was ending operations in Canada. I was shocked, and after some searching, I found a few "news" articles online, confirming what people were saying on social media.

A few people made some posts asking about it on the Birchbox Facebook page, and all they said was that they would be making an announcement soon regarding the situation, but apologized for people finding out through social media.

Well, today is now Tuesday and they finally made their announcement. This is what they had to say...

We are so sad to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to put our Canada operations on hold. We love our Canadian customers, but with the current exchange rate and high shipping costs, we can't create the Birchbox experience at a price that is fair to you. We will do what we can to make that a possibility; until then, please know that we sincerely appreciate your support and enthusiasm for Birchbox, and we plan to take good care of our Canadian subscribers as we wind down in this market.
For all Birchbox subscribers, March 2016 will be your last shipment.
If you have a monthly subscription, you will no longer be billed after March. If you have an annual subscription, you will be credited the remaining value of your subscription in Birchbox Points.
You have until April 30, 2016 to spend all your Birchbox Points (including your current points and those credited from your subscription).
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or feedback - we are available via Facebook message or email at
Thank you,
Katia Beauchamp
Co-Founder and CEO

This makes me sad. I really enjoy the boxes from Birchbox. No, they aren't super customizeable like other subscriptions, but you know that going into it. They were affordable considering they didn't charge in US dollars. And their points shop was awesome, you didn't have to wait for them to upload more products, there was always something available!

I can understand the issue with the Canadian dollar, and shipping because it is expensive, but other companies seem to be working fine. I'm happy I will still be getting February and possibly March. I'm mad for those who signed up for a yearly subscription because Birchbox doesn't want to refund their credit cards, they want to credit their account with points to shop. I saw a LOT of unhappiness about that on Facebook, and I'd definitely be mad about it too. I personally don't think they will ever come back into Canada again, and if they do, they have lost some customers because of the way this was handled.
