March 2015 - Ipsy Glambag! [Review]

Starting this post off, I just want to say that after I saw my glam room with this bag, I cancelled my account. I felt as if Ipsy didn't listen to ANYTHING on my quiz, and I was so angry. I even emailed them to pretty much ask them why they sent me some of these items, and their answers were terrible. I'll include that part in my review.

That was my entire bag... The bag itself is super cute, and I know I will get use out of it. I like the colours, and the different type of floral. I was expecting it to be black with small roses when they announced the floral theme.

NYX Butter Lipstick in Hulk
Everyone got either a NYX Butter Lipstick, or a single shadow. Between the two I wanted the lipstick, but was hoping for the pink. I really did not want the purple at all, because it just looks so dark. Of course, I ended up with the purple lipstick - just the way this bag was going for me. I decided to try it though, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's actually pretty sheer if you apply it very lightly, and has more of a pink tone to it. I put it on and it stayed for a few hours. While it's not my favouite shade of lipstick, I will get some wear out of it.

Pur-lisse Gentle Soy Milk Cleanser and Makeup Remover
I have to say,  I was annoyed to see another pur-lisse item in my bag. I have 3 lotions from them and I'm just not a fan. I haven't tried this cleanser yet, but I will give it a try. I have many other cleansers I need to get through, which are almost done, before I get to this one. But I'm sure it will be okay.

I have to warn you... this is where my anger started...

Dr Brandt Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion
This angered me a lot. My profile specified that I had dry skin. I'm looking for moisture in my lotion, I don't want my skin to look more dry than what it actually is. Why would they send me a mattifying lotion? Their reasoning was because it has anti-aging properties. Last time I checked, I didn't have that marked off in my quiz either. I haven't tried this, and I probably won't. I'm not sure what I will do with it either. I've seen others complain that it smells as well. Lovely.

Boo-Boo Coverup Concealer in Medium
Oh, this one pushed me over the edge. My skin type is also described in the quiz as fair. Not light, not medium. But fair. Fair to me, is as white as lined paper. Or snow. Or casper (as my mom likes to call me sometimes.) So I just KNEW a medium concealer was not going to fly. In my email to Ipsy, I asked them why they would send this to people who have fair as their skin tone. They claim that they have tested it on many skin types and it can be blended out and it works for people. WRONG IPSY. SO WRONG. This colour is too dark, too yellow, and just DOESN'T WORK on fair skinned people. I really wanted to try this concealer but I can't use it at all. I really wish they wouldn't send stuff like this to people because its so hard to match peoples skin tones. Ugh.

Vintage Highlighter by Jessica Liebeskind
Honestly, when I saw a highlighter, I wasn't impressed. Who sends out a mattifying lotion, and then a highlighter for your matte skin? There just didn't seem to be any logic to this bag. I figured I would give it a try anyway, since I was so unimpressed about everything else. I don't really use a highlighter ever. But I like this one. It's not insanely shimmery, and it is a lighter pink, so it works well with my skin tone. I wasn't so angry with this one afterwards.

So as you can see, I wasn't happy with this bag. And for months I had been debating on cancelling. I really enjoy getting the pink mailer every month, but the bag quality has been all over the place lately, and with the conversion rate making it almost $20, it just wasn't worth it to me anymore. Then I got this bag and it made my decision for me. Will I miss getting a monthy bag? I'm sure I will. And I'm afraid of them sending out some really awesome things while I'm unsubscribed, but I can always sign back up eventually if I change my mind. But as of now, Ipsy and I had to break up.

I did however sign up for Birchbox, and they were sending all Canadian members a Beauty Blender this month, so keep an eye out on my review once that box gets here! Which should be any day now!

  1. I had to cancel my bag after to many awful bags. I'd get sunscreen one month and tanning spray the next month. Ridiculous.

    1. Their logic is ridiculous. I shouldn't even call it logic! I'm trying out Birchbox, at least you kind of know that you might get something you don't want. Ipsy tries to make it look as if they will send you things that match your quiz, then completely ignore it.
