Beauty Box 5 - October 2014 [Review]

After 3 months, I decided to cancel my beauty box 5. The cost was very close to the price of the Ipsy bags (even with the exchange rate) and I decided it wasn't worth it. The samples are small compared to Ipsy's and I considered them kind of sub-par.

October 2014 - Ipsy Glambag! [Review]

So the theme of October's glam bag is "Beauty Candy"

Benefit Cosmetics - Customer Service

I recently redeemed some Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points on a Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Concealer.

Beauty Box 5 - October 2014 - Sneak Peek

I recently signed up to beauty box 5, when they had a buy one box, get one box free, promotion.

I was 50/50 split between the two previous boxes. I liked one more than the other. I decided to keep the box for October to see what we would get, and then would make my decision on if I wanted to stay subscribed, or unsubscribe.

The product everyone will receive in their October Beauty Box 5 is bellapierre cosmetics, lip and cheek stain, in the colour pink.

I've never tried this brand before, but I've seen it in Ipsy bags in the past. And it was actually a part of a recent Ipsy point redemption. I was excited to see what it would be like.

Ipsy - October 2014 - Sneak Peeks!

It's that time of the month again! Ipsy sneak peeks! Beauty Candy was the theme for October's bag. And while I like the idea of the theme, I think it would be better suited for a different month. October is all about FALL, and Beauty Candy doesn't equal fall to me. Let's see what we'll be getting...

Sneak Peek #1

All members will receive ONE of the above items. Here we have:
- Starlooks lip gloss in Guilty Pleasure
- Noyah lip stick in Deeply in Mauve
- City Color Be Matte lip stick in Cappuccino

From all three I wanted the lip gloss.

Sneak Peek #2
This sneak peek was actually sent out before hand to previous subscribers, so people may have seen it before Ipsy posted it. Anyway, in this sneak peek we have:
- Revlon Bold Lacquer Length and Volume Mascara in Blackest Black
- Jesse's Girl Mineralized Baked Shadow Powder in Plum Frost, Rosemary Frost, Ocean Breeze, Graphite Frost, Kiwi Shine, Esmeralda
- Doll 10 H2Glo Highlighter
- NYC Big Bold Curl Mascara
- MicaBeauty Mineral Eye Shadow in Harlequin or Reluctance
- ModelCo Volumeyes Extreme Black Mascara
- Skone Cosmetics Tattooed Waterproof Eyeliner

From this sneak peek, members will receive one of the above products. Out of all of them I would like to try the eyeliner, or jesse's girl baked eye shadow. I received revlon in my beauty box 5 and still haven't tried it yet, so I would like to avoid getting that one.

Sneak Peek #3
For sneak peek number 3, members will receive one of three products.
- Rihanna Rogue perfume
- Ayres Patagonia Body Butter
- Figs and Rouge Hand Cream in either Mango Mandarin or Rose Berry

Honestly, I don't want any of these. But I guess I would pick the mango mandarin hand cream.

Sneak Peek #4
Next up, we have three items again.
- Epice International Purifying Exfoliant
- Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser
- Skyn Iceland Mini Glacial Cleansing Cloths

To me, this sneak peek is better than the third. That being said, I'd like to try the purifying exfoliant or cleansing cloths. I remember trying to get epice international samples back in February and they never ever came.

Sneak Peek #5
There are a ton of products in the last sneak peek. Again, we will receive only 1 of them.
- Doll 10 H2Glo Higlighter (repeat from second spoiler)
- Nicole by OPI Nail Polish in Feeling Very Cherry or On a Gilt Trip
- Fudge Urban Matte Wax
- ECRU New York Acacia Protein BB Cream Beauty Balm for Hair
- Cirque Colors Nail Polish
- Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
- Albertini Warm Love Pumpkin Exfoliating Mask
- H20Plus Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment
- Kiss iENVYbyKISS Lashes
- Nourish Organic Moisturizing Face Cleanser

There are a ton of things from this spoiler I wouldn't mind trying. I have dry skin, so the H2OPlus, or Nourish Organic would be good. I love the dark cherry colour of the Nicole OPI nail polish. I'd even love love love to try the pumpkin mask. I'd be happy with anything but the lashes, or smashbox because I have one already and I hate it.

Finally, we have the bag.
This one reminds me a lot of the bag we got in December. The black patent one. I loved that bag, so I hope I love this one too. We'll see when it gets here!

**Ipsy gave us early access again to our glam bags! This is what I will be expecting when the bag arrives!**

 What I'm getting is:
- Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser
- MicaBeauty Mineral Eye Shadow
- Rihanna Rogue perfume
- Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
- Starlooks Lip Gloss

I have to say I'm not impressed. What is a brightening cleanser? I don't have perfume selected in my profile. I've tried the primer and I hated it. The only okay things are the lip gloss (which I have an endless amount now because I just keep getting it - even though lipstick is selected as well on my profile) AND depending on the shade of eye shadow, it can be hit or miss.

What are you guys getting in your October glam bag?!

Beauty Box 5 - September 2014 [Review]

After seeing the August Beauty Box 5, I was hoping that September would be just as good, in terms of being able to use everything.

The one thing I dislike about this company is that there are no preferences for you to pick. Everyone pretty much gets the same box, with different colour variations, or one product may differ between customers.

So as seen in a few posts back, all BB5 members were to receive a Nicka K Eye Light Crayon. It was sent in a few different colours.

Nicka K New York - Eye Light Crayon
Mine was sent to me in the gold colour. I have only swatched it on my hand, and it does come out smooth. It also comes out very shimmery. This was sent as a full size product, and retails on the Nicka K site for $4.49.
My Beauty Spot Luxury Goddess Nail Polish
There were a few of these colours sent out as well. I received the gray polish (second from the left) and it is actually a lot darker than what the image shows. When I first saw the polish I wanted to swatch it, but I couldn't even get the bottle opened. After doing some google searching, people recommended that I run the lid under hot water, and it should help loosen it up. Not a great first impression on this box. BB5 offered to replace it when I complained, but I can't be bothered to go through the hassle of getting another cheap polish. This comes in a set of 6 and sells on the BB5 site for $24.99, making them $4.16 each. They are not worth that much at all. The formula is really thick, and the bottle is tiny (0.4 fl oz).

Natural Style by Fubu - Deep Conditioner and Co-Wash
So, who knew that Fubu had a hair care line? Not I. Anyway, we received 2 foil packets of this stuff. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. 12oz sells for $12.99 on the BB5 website.

Revlon - Bold Lacquer Length and Volume Mascara
When I saw this on Instagram in other peoples boxes, I didn't want it. I have so many mascaras at the moment, that I didn't want another. But, I was sent one. Hopefully it does actually give volume and length. I have another Revlon Grow Lusious Mascara, and its very basic, natural looking. This mascara seems to be making its rounds in other beauty boxes as well, infact it is even in Ipsy's September bag as well. This was sent as a full size product, and retails at Ulta for $7.99. I think it retails around the same amount at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Sally Hansen - Toe Spacers
Finally, I was sent toe spacers. I've used them. They work just fine. They're just toe spacers. I was unimpressed to see this in my box, but it looks like everyone got them. Its suggested they retail for $1.99, but you could probably find them cheaper elsewhere.

After seeing both of my boxes, I decided I would take Octobers box, and then cancel my subscription. They don't compare very well to Ipsy, and I couldn't see myself cancelling Ipsy to go with BB5. My October box is on its way, and I hope its an improvement!

Beauty Box 5 - August 2014 [Review]

After constantly seeing a promotion on my Facebook for Beauty Box 5, I decided I would sign up and give it a shot. They were offering a free box with the purchase of the September 2014 box. 2 for the price of 1, why not?!

I had heard some mixed reviews for previous boxed, but I wanted to give it a try anyway. Ipsy has been going downhill for me, so I was looking for something to maybe replace it.

This was my Beauty Box Five FREE August box. As you can see the sizes are pretty decent. I received:

LA Fresh - Travel Lite Oil Free Makeup Remover Wipes (Qty: 8 Wipes)
I haven't had a chance to try these out yet because I have another package opened, however I've heard good things about these so I can't wait to give them a try. These retail for $2.49 on their website.

Pur-Lisse SPF 30 Sunscreen, Essential Daily Moisturizer
I've received this in a previous Ipsy bag. It doesn't moisturize my skin very well. This will probably end up in a trade or donate pile. Or eventually used when my skin doesn't feel too dry. The full size (1.5oz) retails for $55.00 on their website. We were sent a sample size of .5oz.

Novex Brazilian Keratin Professional Hair Food Therapy
I'm always looking for a good hair treatment. My hair is long, wavy and thick. But the ends sometimes look dry. I haven't had a chance to try this hair treatment out because I'm using the free BzzAgent Pantene Pro-V Collection, however this sample looks like I may be able to get a few uses out of it. Hopefully it doesn't make my hair look or feel greasy. This retails online for $70 for 1kg. We were sent a sample size packet of 30g.

Style Essentials Nail Polish
Theres nothing really special about this polish. Its clear with specks of black and white pieces. I might wear it, I might not. I'm a little unsure. Anyway, after looking on Beauty Box 5's website, I found these sell in a pack of 4 for $7, making this polish worth $1.75.

Nanacoco Lip Gloss in Mysterious
This lip gloss reminds me very much of the Jouer gloss that I redeemed my ipsy points for a few months back. This colour seems to be a little darker than the Jouer though. This gloss isn't too sticky, and actually smells nice. I haven't used it too much though because I have a billion other glosses open at the moment. This sells on the BB5 website for $3.99.

As my first BB5 box, and for free, I was happy with it. I will use everything in this box eventually, so nothing is really a waste.

September 2014 - Ipsy Glambag!

The theme for Septembers Glambag was Street Style

As you can see, the bag itself is a silver colour, with studs on the top. I like this months bag. It doesn't smell like past bags have, and its not stiff. It's fairly deep as well, so a lot of products will fit inside.

First up, we have the Alterna Haircare - Caviar CC Cream - 10 in 1 Complete Correction.

I haven't had a chance to try this out yet, but it smells really good. I have also heard nothing but good things about this product, so once I get a chance to give it a good honest review, I will add it onto my blog!

Next up we have the Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss in the colour Basic Instinct. There were only two colours given this month, and the other was a darker red colour. I actually wanted the red lipstick that was shown in the spoiler because I don't have any. But I was sent this peachy lip gloss colour instead. When I first tried it, I hated it. The colour came out very orange, brown. The formula is okay, it feels like a lipstick on my lips. I tried it again with very little product and its okay. I won't use it often because I'm not a fan of this colour.

I was sent this NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow in the colour Addiction. Online, this colour looks like a dark purple, with maybe a reddish undertone. In person, it is more of a red, brown, with a LITTLE purprle. Looking at it, I wasn't a fan, and I wanted the Sally Hansen nail polish from this spoiler. I have received so many eyeshadows so far from Ipsy, I didn't want another. But I got one. Anyway, the colour pay off is good, and it is glittery. If I use this lightly it will be okay.

Pacifica was sent to everyone this month. However they sent either a red nail polish, a brown pencil or a gray pencil. I wanted either one of the first two listed. Of course, I was sent a gray eye pencil. I hate eye pencils, and between brown or gray, the brown would have worked much better with my skin tone, and eye colour. I haven't opened this yet because I know I won't use it.

Finally we have the Infinity Shadow/Crease Duo Brush. In this original spoiler it was either this brush, or a matte powder. I wanted the matte powder. Do you notice a trend? lol. Anyway the brush is really soft. The smaller end picks up more shadow than the fatter end. And that's about all I have to say. I have many brushes, but I prefer my cheap elf brushes.

Hopefully October will be a better month. I am starting to think my last month with Ipsy will be in December due to finances, and the things they have been sending me recently are things I don't want.

BzzAgent - Pantene Pro-V Ultimate 10 Collection [Review]

I was recently sent the new Pantene Pro-V Ultimate 10 Collection from BzzAgent to try it for free, and share my review. This is what is stated on the BzzAgent site for this campaign.

Every head of hair is different, from how often it needs to be cleansed to how deep it needs to be conditioned. But every hair care routine can benefit from a hair treatment boost, and Pantene has plenty of them that are designed to work with your shampoo and conditioner. For instance, their new Pro-V Ultimate 10 BB Crème packs 10 solutions into every bottle. Here’s just a few:

  • Repair for rough hair and strength against damage
  • Silky softness and brilliant shine
  • Smoothing and moisture
  • Frizz control and heat protection
  • Manageability
  • Tamed flyaways

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Pantene. Anything I have tried by them has left my hair looking heavy and greasy within a few hours. I'm not sure if its something they add to their shampoo/conditioner, or what. But my hair just is not a fan.

I will say I was most excited about the BB Creme. I have tried many leave in conditioners, masks, sprays etc, to help my hair with dry ends, fly aways and to make it easier to manage. I decided I would give the shampoo, conditioner, and BB Creme a fair chance, and try everything out.

First I tried the Pantene Pro-V Ultimate 10 Shampoo. It is very creamy when it comes out of the bottle. It also lathers really well. It does make my hair feel a little softer when rinsing it out, but doesn't make my hair feel too clean like others do.

After washing out the shampoo, I tried the Pantene Pro-V Ultimate 10 Conditioner. It also was creamy coming out of the bottle, but it wasn't as thick as some other brands I have used in the past. I tend to leave conditioner on my ends only, so that is what I did with this as well, and put just a little near my roots. I let it sit in my hair for a few minutes before washing it out. It also made my hair feel a little more soft.

When I was done in the shower, I towel tried my hair. I did find it easy to brush through and there wasn't many tangles. I applied the BB Creme and then blow dried my hair. My hair didn't have too many knots or tangles, and it did leave less fly aways. My hair was also a little more smooth. I added a little more of the BB Creme to my ends before flat ironing my hair, because my ends tend to look dry.

Comparing all of these items, I would say that I liked the BB Creme the most. However, I found my hair got really greasy within a few hours, I'm not sure which of the 3 caused this. I would not repurchase these items in the future because there are other hair products that I prefer.
