NYX Canada Haul! - First Impressions and Swatches!

This should really be split up into two posts because I purchased these items separately (some from Shoppers Drug Mart and some from NYX Canada website) but since it's all NYX, I've decided to combine them together.

NYX is not new to the cosmetic world. In fact, they have been available forever in drug stores across the US. We recently just received some store fronts in the GTA, and Shoppers Drug Mart recently started carrying the line in stores. Not everything is available in Shoppers Drug Mart yet, but it's still pretty awesome to see the line carried there! Finally something we don't miss out on.

This review is going to be a first impression/swatches. I haven't fully tested out some of the products, but those that I have will have a short little blurb about what I think!

Glam Sense & Lise Watier - HydraForce (Campaign)

I applied months ago when Glam Sense was first announced by Topbox. They started to roll out some campaigns and I was finally picked for Lise Watier - HydraForce. Excited is an understatement. If you've been following my blog, then you know my struggle of having dry skin, and finding the perfect moisturizer/cream for my face. This campaign couldn't have come at a better time since it is still so cold in Ontario, and my dry skin is still pretty dry! I'm even thinking my skin may be dry, and dehydrated. But that's another story!

Birchbox - February 2016

Well, I'm super sad to say that this is the last Birchbox for Canada. I really enjoyed their boxes, and they were the only subscription service that I was subscribed too. I'll be sad to no longer receive the boxes, and I loved their shop. You could use your points for absolutely anything. I will miss them.

Topbox - March 2016

This is my second Topbox! Last month I felt a little iffy about my first box, because I felt as if the value wasn't really there, and I wasn't overly thrilled about the items I was sent. I got a hand cream, a primer, another purlisse face lotion with spf, and a sample of bar soap. This month I feel was much better, at least for myself.

First off, let's take a look at the options they were giving for a prive box.
A prive box is a box that you can "wish" for, and make your selection in the beginning of the month. You aren't always promised that you will be getting that prive box, so it's a surprise when it gets to you.

Small Sephora Haul

Both of these products are holy grails for people, and come with very positive reviews. I decided I needed to try them as well, because I'm always looking for new amazing products.

You're seeing that right! Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector - Champagne Pop and Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral. Both very very popular products that have made their way around the internet and bloggers and just beauty lovers. I finally decided I needed to get my hands on them as well, so that's what I did.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill - Shimmer Skin Perfector Pressed - Champagne Pop
So EVERYONE knows about this highlighter. It's been a limited edition product for the longest time and always sold out. Sephora finally announced that it was going to be a permanent item recently, and again, it's been sold out. I signed up to get a notification to let me know once its back in stock. When I got the email, I didn't even wait. I logged into my account and placed my order.

Champagne Pop is described as soft white gold with pinky peach undertone. I've read multiple reviews saying that this highlighter works for everyone, and I figured with a pinky peach undertone, it just may work on my pale, pinky undertoned skin.

It's just so beautiful! I can't believe I waited so long to get this. I did receive a cream highlighter by Becca in my Lucky Bag 2016, but it was in the shade moonstone. And I love that shade as well. I was seriously contemplating getting Moonstone instead, but in the powder version. For some reason the cream doesn't blend as nicely on my skin.

Look at that highlight! I love it! I find if I do apply it a little too heavy handed, then it looks a little too gold on my pale skin, so a light hand is definitely needed. But it's so hard to not go overboard, it's such a beautiful highlighter! Ahh!

Enough of the highlighter, you all know how awesome it is! Let's talk about that concealer!

Urban Decay - Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Fair Neutral
I purchased the lightest shade they had in their selection of concealers, since I am really really pale. Unfortunately, their line only comes in a neutral or warm skin tone selection, for people like me, I need a cool undertone because I have pink undertones in my skin. I figured just MAYBE fair neutral would work for me if I apply it carefully.

As you can see it has a doe-foot applicator. Which is pretty standard on these types of concealers. I actually prefer them to the concealers that you have to squeeze out of the tube. This is probably where my love of this product ends.

The shade seems to work just okay for my fair skin. But like I mentioned before, I have a pink undertone, so it does pull a little yellow on me. Not a big deal if I use some powder over top or apply lightly, but here is where the trouble begins for me.

This concealer is super light-weight which is great, but it doesn't seem to be enough coverage for my dark under-eye circles. And not just that, it makes my under-eyes look SO DRY. I can apply moisturizer, and under-eye cream, and this concealer still manages to find any dry patches and cling to them. It also creases easily under my eyes. It does cover blemishes alright (I will dab product on my finger, and then use my finger to cover blemishes, just so I'm not touching a blemish with the wand and putting it back into the packaging) but it doesn't sit nicely on my skin either. It looks like it separates, and the DRY PATCHES. Ugh. I really wanted to love this concealer since it gets so much love online, but it just doesn't work for me. It does have a little bit of a "paint" smell as well, but it disappears quickly, and I don't find it strong enough to bother me.

Here's just a little swatch of the highlighter (left) and the concealer on the right. I loved the swatches on my arm, but the concealer just doesn't work on my face.

Do any of my readers know if a concealer can be sanitized? I feel like maybe I should sell this to try and get some of my money back. I don't live close enough to a Sephora to make it worth a trip to return it. We are getting a Sephora in our local mall soon, but I'm not sure about the return policy, or when exactly the opening will be.

Luxe Box - Spring 2016

If you have never heard of Luxe Box, it's a part of Top Box. Except it is sent out every three months instead of every month like most beauty box subscriptions.

Luxe Box is $26 for a month, and they also have some discounts if you sign up for a yearly subscription, but I decided to do the monthly amount, just so I don't get tied into something I may not enjoy. You are sent 7-8 products, and have the option to upgrade just before the box ships. Shipping is free, but they only ship within Canada.

With Birchbox ending Canadian operations, and me cancelling my Ipsy bag, I felt I would be missing out in the subscription world. I did also sign up for Topbox and received my first bag in February, but I thought Luxe Box would be another interesting choice, and it is pretty affordable since it is only $26 (every 3 months) and more of a luxe product offering.

Enough introduction :) Let's see what came in my Spring 2016 Luxe Box!

First things first, since March is "Earth Month" Luxe Box decided they would ship everyones box in these eco-friendly silk bags instead. This can be reused so I thought that was neat. Although I'm not sure what I will use it for yet! Let's look inside!

Included in the box is a product card. Both sides are filled out. I got a total of 7 products for my Spring 2016 Luxe Box.

I didn't take any individual photos of these products, except a swatch of the BB Cream. I felt the picture showed everything. I will list each item individually though.

Jelly Pong Pong - Lychee Gel Softening Shower and Bath Gel
A softening bath and shower gel infused with the most delicious lychee-lemon scent. The ultra-gentle formula produces a luxurious, silky foam that cleanses without drying out your skin. Made without parabens. Full size is 30mL for $15.95.

I'm not in a rush to use this one, but it sounds like it will smell good, and it will eventually get used up. I will provide a little review on this one, probably in an empties post.

Model Co - BB Plus Cream Daily All-in-One Skin Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Combining serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and SPF 30+ UVA and UVB Broad-Spectrum Protection sunscreen, BB PLUS covers blemishes and imperfections, helps maintain hydration, corrects signs of dullness or fatigue and helps protect the skin from UV rays. Full size is 35mL for $22.

While this BB Cream sounds right up my alley, because I need all the hydration I can get. The colour is just awful. It's supposed to be light, but it is orange.

Look at that. How is that even LIGHT? Horrible. Horrible colour. Not impressed at all.

POP Beauty - Kajal Pen
Matte finish, intensely pigmented kajal pen defines and shapes eyes in an instant! Lush gemstone shades POP any eye colour effortlessly! Easily blends with included smudger. Suitable for sensitive eyes. 0.9g is $10.

I'm not sure if I will use this because it is a pencil. I tend to prefer liquid liners just because they are so much more pigmented and they don't drag as much as a pencil does for me. Since it is a kajal liner though, I feel like it would be a little better than a normal eye pencil. I haven't decided it if I will use it or not. I'm leaving it unopened for now.

Schick - Hydro Silk Razor
Hydrates longer than any other razor. This uniquely designed razor goes beyond an incredibly close shave to actually care for your skin. With water-activated moisturizing serum and 5 curve sensing blades with skin guards to help protect skin from irritation, this razor leaves skin feeling silky smooth! 1 razor $12.64.

A razor. I mean, it's not really exciting, or "luxe"... when I pulled it out, I was like, what is this? I will use it, it's not a huge deal, but I've never seen a razor included in a beauty box. The other thing that irritates me, is usually P&G or whoever owns this brand, usually sends these out for FREE in their own annual sample boxes. So this leaves a bad taste for me.

Morgan Taylor - Professional Nail Lacquer
It's what's inside that counts. Inspired by luminous pearls, raw gems, semi-precious stones, glimmering silvers and radiant gold all drawn from the earth. All pigments are saturated, pure, and finely milled for luminous metallics, never before seen shimmers, decadent cremes, stunning sheers and more glistening glitters. 15mL is $15.83.

The colour is pretty. It's purpley. I haven't had a chance to try it yet so I don't know how long the wear time is, but it's a pretty spring colour, and definitely one I would wear all year if I could!

Smashbox - Photo Finish Classic Primer
Worn alone or under foundation, our best-selling, oil-free primer helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, and pores for flawless skin with a velvety-smooth finish. 30mL is $44.

I've tried this primer before and didn't like it. It will be gifted.

Benefit Cosmetics - The POREfessional primer
Quickly minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin! Apply this silky, lightweight balm alone, under or over makeup. Translucent, oil-free formula complements all skin tones and helps makeup stay put. 22mL is $37.

I've heard good things about this but have never tried it. I'm not really big on primers. It might be because I just haven't found the right one for me, I'm not sure. Top box is also giving away a free sample of this one, so I will be keeping one sample and gifting the other.

Overall thoughts...
I kind of feel as if this was a waste of $26. The only thing I really like from this is the nail polish. Yes, the razor and the shower gel will get used. But the razor I have recieved for free before in the past, and the shower gel just isn't exciting. Two primers feels like an over kill, and what makes it kind of bad to me, is that they are giving them away for free through a facebook promotion as well. So two of my seven products were free at some point. Then the BB cream is useless to me because the colour is so wrong. I know we take a gamble when it comes to subscription services, but nothing feels "luxe" about this Luxe Box at all. I will stay subscribed for the next box, which should be coming in the summer, but if it's similar to this, I can't see myself staying subscribed for a long time.
